The different worldviews that our society presents us have either led to a shallow, careless, or exaggerated view of sex. This entry focuses on the careless, and trivialization perception of sex in our society.
This piece is part of a series exploring the topic of Sex in Marriage, building on ideas introduced in this post.
Trivialization of Sex
Finally, we have a different worldview of sex. If some idolize it and others demonize it, there are yet other people who trivialize sex. Sex is too taboo. It should be left alone and never talked about. Picture those households with parents who are shy and never want to talk about it with their kids. Don’t have the “sex talk” because sex is trivial.
In this worldview, sex may be considered trivial due to pervasive cultural influences that emphasize casual encounters and de-emphasize emotional connection, leading to a diminished perception of its significance and complexity in human relationships, to the point that the very idea is compromised, affecting not only ourselves but also those we love.
Again, this is not something we see in the scriptures. The Bible acknowledges that this is a reality in our lives and it should never be taken as taboo or trivial. The Bible has a more comprehensive and harmonious view of sex as you can see here.
